NML joins NHS England in Knowledge Transfer Partnership for leaders in healthcare science

The NHS Chief Scientific Officer’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) offers a unique opportunity for healthcare scientists to build long-term collaborations between clinical, research and industry teams, partner organisations within the UK's National Measurement System (NMS) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

Following on from the successful inaugural competition launched last year, the National Measurement Laboratory (NML) at LGC is again one of the partners of this twelve-month programme.

The KTP is designed to enable healthcare scientists to remain in clinical service whilst exchanging skills and expertise with NMS experts to create, expand, enhance or implement innovative ideas to improve the quality of patient care.

In last year’s programme, we worked with Dr Rachel Carling, Consultant Clinical Scientist, Director of Service and Clinical Lead, Viapath, Guys & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the improved harmonisation of newborn blood spot screening results. This year, up to 12 successful partnerships will be awarded across the themes of novel diagnostics, advanced therapeutics, medical devices and digital health, clinical measurements and standards, and accreditation. In addition, a KTP in antimicrobial resistance will be supported in collaboration with EPSRC Fast Assessment and Treatment in Healthcare (FAST Healthcare) Network.
