LGC scientists recognised by Institute of Food Science & Technology

Two LGC scientists have recently received accolades from the Institute of Food Science & Technology (IFST), the leading qualifying body for food professionals in Europe and the only professional body in the UK concerned with all aspects of food science and technology.

Selvarani Elahi, Deputy Government Chemist and Business Manager Food Research, has been awarded a Fellowship of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), the senior category for membership. Fellows must have demonstrated a sustained high level of achievement and exceptional professionalism in relation to food.

Michael Walker, Referee Analyst for the Government Chemist at LGC, has been invited to become a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science & Technology. The Honorary Fellowship is awarded to Members and Fellows who have made an extensive personal contribution to the working and progress of the Institute and to the food science and technology profession. Michael holds the MChemA, the statutory qualification to act as a Public Analyst in the UK, and was a subject matter expert to the UK Department of Health/Defra Elliott Review in the aftermath of the horse meat scandal, continuing to advise government on aspects of the Review.

These awards recognise the significant expertise and experience that Michael and Selvarani possess in this field.
