Sports and specialised analytical services
Our laboratory in Fordham is one of the world’s premier independent drug surveillance laboratories, providing unrivalled and internationally trusted expertise in all aspects of doping and medication control for animal sports. We have provided forensic drug testing services to British horseracing continuously since 1963 and do so now under contract with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA).
Our services are used by many other sports authorities within the UK and around the world, including the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) and the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). As the FEI’s central laboratory, we have been responsible for the successful testing of the equestrian events at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games, and recently the 2018 World Equestrian Games held in North Carolina.
Drug testing for regulators of animal sports is an international concern and is conducted to protect both the integrity of competition and the welfare of animal competitors. Racing laboratories like LGC collaborate with each other and with regulators to pursue testing and research objectives aimed at providing a consistent approach to doping and medication control.
LGC’s human drug testing services are also provided out our Fordham laboratory. These services are not directed at regulated human sport but utilise 50 years of regulatory drug surveillance experience. We offer a portfolio of specialised analysis to satisfy customers with specific human drug testing requirements.
Our laboratory is accredited for its Animal Sports Testing and Human Drug Testing services under ISO/IEC 17025, an accreditation we have held since 1991.
