Animal sports testing
LGC has built its world class reputation upon the science and technology of doping control in horseracing, where we have over 50 years’ continuous experience. Add nearly 20 years' involvement with greyhound racing and you will see that LGC has contributed significantly to animal welfare and the integrity of animal sports with research that has helped to develop many international regulations and drug testing policies. LGC is a key member of the European Horseracing Scientific Liaison Committee (EHSLC), certified by the Association of Racing Chemists (AORC) and is one of five appointed International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) Reference Laboratories.
The laboratory maintains a significant research and development programme in order to be able to respond to the latest risks identified by the regulators. Method development, validation and investigation of new threats underpin all drug screening activities. Due to the diverse range of analytes studied, a range of analytical technologies are employed, including high resolution accurate mass, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS and clinical analysis.
LGC’s Sports testing laboratory is accredited by UKAS; for a list of tests accredited to ISO17025, please refer to our schedule of accreditation. This is available from the UKAS website or by application from LGC.
