European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR)

The European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) is the main programme for European research on measurement science, following on from the successful European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP). EMPIR coordinates research projects to address grand challenges, while supporting and developing the SI system of measurement units.

The EMPIR is implemented by the European Association of National Metrology Institutes (EURAMET) and is jointly funded by the European Union and the participating countries. Each project requires collaboration of EU National Measurement Institutes/Designated Institutes supported by academics and industry in response to a particular theme.

LGC are currently involved in six projects under the measurement challenges of health, environment, industry and the SI units, leading and contributing to the development of measurement solutions across Europe.
