LGC announces European measurement science funding success for 2017

LGC, in its role as the UK National Measurement Laboratory and Designated Institute for chemical and bio-measurement, has won additional European funding to help address the grand challenge of ‘metrology for environment’ and ‘support for metrology impact’.

The successful projects, which will start in the summer of 2017, are:

• “New underpinning standards for improved bio-analytical measurement in Biotechnology & In vitro Diagnostics” (LGC is project coordinator)

This project will support contributions to biological ISO standards, utilising the best practice guidance generated in previous LGC-led European-funded metrology projects (Bio-SITrace, INFECT-MET).

• “Metrology for oxidised mercury” (LGC is leading a work package)

This project will support the effective environment control of the toxic metal mercury (Hg) and its different forms in gas emission sources and in the atmosphere.

The European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) is the main programme for European research on measurement science and is funded by the European Commission and involves collaboration between the top European NMIs, universities and industry.
