LGC provides a range of measurement products and services which underpin the safety, health and security of the public, including reference materials and proficiency testing, Genomics reagents and instrumentation, and expert sample analysis and interpretation. Our customers are across a number of end markets including Pharmaceuticals, Agricultural Biotechnology, Food, Environment, Government and Academia.
 
In our Genomics Division, we use our expertise in DNA extraction (Over 100 million DNA tests performed on 1 million human, plant and animal samples per year), genotyping, sequencing and PCR to enable scientists and companies to feed, cure and protect the world’s population. We supply genomic services from our UK, Germany and US laboratories, to global customers in agricultural biotechnology, molecular diagnostics, research, pharma/biotech, applied and clinical markets.

Job purpose:
 
The Enterprise Data Manager - Genomics will take a leading role in the Division’s development of Enterprise Data strategy, architecture, policies and governance structure and will support the VP of IT and Business Transformation Manager in taking a strategic approach to choosing the right processes, technologies and resources to be implemented and embedded within our rapidly growing organisation.
The Enterprise Data Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping our future data asset management capability by facilitating the creation of processes, policies and standards as well as shaping and laying foundations for the underpinning technologies.
The role is one of the key contributors to the ‘One Genomics’ transformation initiative aimed at driving  a deep organisational change to transition from the current local and fragmented state to a global operating model. 
  

Key Responsibilities:
 
The Enterprise Data Manager is responsible for all aspects of data governance developing the overall data architecture strategy, creating and maintaining standards and best practices for data provisioning and data integration, enterprise data modelling and design. The position acts as a subject matter expert and facilitator within the organization and is able to liaise with technical staff and business stakeholders at all levels to ensure data goals and objectives are met.  This includes:
 
Platform
  • Management and implementation of strategy for data management & governance
  • Working with the Head of Group BI & Analytics to define Information and MDM Solution Architecture
  • Implementation of system improvements  and new technologies aimed at data storage, profiling, processing, management and integration into business applications
  • Recommendations for improvements and platform development to meet strategic objectives of the business (e.g. workflow mgmt. applications, data cleansing, auditing, etc.)
  • Gap analysis of current business systems, EDM and MDM applications to target state
  • Create functional specifications for system and configuration changes due to application modifications
  • Understanding of existing business applications and legacy systems landscape to support information and solution architecture
Process
  • Support VP of IT and Business Transformation Manager in establishing a robust data governance framework 
  • Maintain the data governance framework and data policies documentation
  • Facilitate the establishment of change management processes to govern data input and maintenance, data stewardship and access control
  • Work with key stakeholders across the business to develop and manage key master data business processes, ensuring that we collect and maintain accurate information
  • Develop and own process for evaluating and auditing data quality (establish data quality KPIs, etc.) and providing direction to the business for improvement
  • Set up and review of data standards, classifications, mappings, cross-referencing and metadata
  • Maintaining a solid understanding of workflows, data dependencies and translating business, data and reporting requirements into logical data structures
People

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
 
Essential
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar Analytical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience
  • Experience in data management and governance, preferably setting up, leading or transforming a Data Management/ Governance initiatives in complex business environments
  • Excellent understanding of data concepts and experience in data management capabilities including data definitions, data quality management and data integration
  • Experience in Data/ Information Architecture/Modelling, ETL, Data Quality and MDM  or data integration tools and strategies
  • Understanding of legislation and how it impacts data management (GDPR, GxP, FDA, etc.)
  • Experience working with, manipulating and transforming large data sets from disparate sources across complex business processes and functions
  • Knowledge and experience of data analysis, profiling, matching and enhancement
  • Solid SQL, ETL, data migration or programming skills
  • Excellent Ms Office skills (Excel, Access, ppt)

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance may be required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have three years continuous residency in the UK. Criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance.
