Scott, Director of NGS Services
What does your role at LGC entail?
I oversee custom NGS services projects, perform bioinformatics analysis for internal product development and external services projects, and am the R&D technical lead on product development projects.
What do you enjoy about working at LGC?
One of the enjoyable aspects is working with smart and friendly colleagues across the globe. Our group has been helping with project teams from the UK and Berlin, and we are cultivating clients in South America and India as well.
What has been your proudest moment at LGC?
Using a technique that was new to us, my colleague and I solved a major problem for a pharma client which has led to an ongoing relationship. The client said they had been battling this problem for 10 years, and the NGS approach was able to give them clean data for every sample. We now hope to offer that approach more widely!
"I’m a scientist at heart, and I really love the variety of projects and organisms that come in to the NGS Services groups. In the past year, I assembled and annotated the Mongolian Gerbil genome (2.3 Gigabase), worked on a South American pepper tree genome (~1 Gigabase), a pseudoscorpion genome (~2.1 Gigabase), sorghum mitochondrial genome, human BAC clones, and helped with a MAb sequencing project for a major pharma company."
