LGC scientist to outline the importance of digital PCR for infectious disease detection

Digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR) has great potential for infectious disease detection, but this potential will not be fully realised without the use of the MIQE guidelines for digital PCR. This is the message that Dr Jim Huggett, from LGC’s Science & Innovation division, will be giving at the qPCR & Digital PCR Congress in London.
The MIQE - Minimum Information for Publication of Quantitative Real-Time PCR Experiments - guidelines were developed and published in 2009 with the aim of encouraging increased transparency in reported data.
As a leading expert on dPCR and a collaborator on the development of MIQE guidelines for dPCR, Jim has been invited to give a lecture at the qPCR & Digital PCR Congress.
His talk will highlight the current disadvantages with the routine detection and quantification of bacterial and viral pathogens and describe some of the key advantages that absolute quantification has when used for the detection of pathogenic microbes.
He will highlight the rationale behind the dMIQE guidelines; explain some of the sources of error when performing dPCR; and outline how dPCR may impact on molecular measurement in the future.
