Research programme management
Overview
LGC has over 12 years experience in providing outsourced
management of public sector research programmes for UK Government,
particularly in health, science and technology R&D.
On behalf of the Department of Health we
operate the Central Commissioning
Facility for the National Institute for
Health Research (NIHR) and the Policy Research Programme
(PRP).
We also support the Technology Strategy Board’s Technology
Programme, sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation
and Skills (BIS) and have provided support to other government
departments (e.g Defra), the devolved administrations and the
research councils. LGC staff have also been seconded into
government to provide key specialist support.
The scale of public funding we support now runs to hundreds of
millions of pounds per year.
Our success in providing reliable services trusted by public bodies
is driven by our principle to ensure win-win partnerships,
sustainable over the long-term, and adapting to changing needs.
Our capability is broad ranging and amongst the most
comprehensive in the UK.
LGC's external programme management teams provide full
outsourced facilities with the capacity and experience to deliver
quality assured programme management.

We commission research, from start-up to final outputs,
incorporating:
- Programme design
- Programme secretariat, website, extranet and
helpline
- Calls for proposals and online application
systems
- Panels, committees, peer and lay review
- Contracts, ongoing technical and financial
monitoring of funded projects
- Organising and managing UK-wide networking,
briefing, consultation and dissemination events on behalf of a wide
spectrum of stakeholders from academics and government officials
through to lay groups and special interest forums.
