Senior Scientist, Contract Research

LGC’s Sport and Specialised Analytical Services (SSAS) department provides a range of analytical services including animal sports doping control, nutritional supplement analysis, drug monitoring and bespoke contract research.
Due to the diverse analytes studied, a range of instrument technologies are employed, including high resolution accurate mass, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS and clinical analysis. The SSAS department is located at our Fordham facility and operates to ISO 17025 quality systems.

Job purpose:

The role sits within the Contract Research team, which predominantly supports nutritional biomarker and healthcare studies for external Sponsors. The team also supports R&D efforts within other teams where necessary. The role is varied in nature but involves developing, validating and running analytical methods across a variety of matrices via the use of a number of instrumental techniques, including chromatography and mass spectrometry.
The ability to interpret scientific data and deliver comprehensive scientific reports and presentations is key to this role. Projects should be delivered on time and to the requirements set by our clients, regulatory bodies and quality system. Opportunities also exist to publish data in peer-reviewed journals.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to undertake all aspects of project delivery from study design through development, delivery, interpretation and reporting of results. The majority of work will be laboratory based and will require a flexible approach to both analytical development and more routine analysis.  The role requires previous practical experience with LC-MS, though GC-MS experience would be beneficial. Knowledge of quality systems (ISO 17025 or GLP) is desirable.
