LGC Standards acquires Africa’s largest supplier of reference materials

18 Nov 2011

LGC Standards acquires Industrial Analytical, South Africa, to offer the most comprehensive range of laboratory reference materials within Africa

LGC Standards, Europe’s leading supplier of reference materials, is pleased to announce that it has acquired Industrial Analytical (Pty) Ltd of South Africa, the single largest supplier of certified reference materials (CRMs) on the southern African continent.

The business combination will benefit Industrial Analytical by providing it with the capability to expand and invest further in the growing sub-Saharan African market for genomics and forensics, while LGC Standards will have its first foothold in the African CRM market together with expertise strengthened by the specialist skills of its new South African partners.

LGC Standards supplies over 100,000 products, including reference materials, pharmaceutical impurity reference standards, biological standards and reagents, as well as supplying proficiency testing services.  Industrial Analytical specialises in pure, matrix and customised CRMs for analytical sectors ranging from extraction industries, food, environmental and pharmaceuticals. Both companies are noted for their customer service, using their in-depth knowledge of products from a wide range of quality suppliers to identify the most appropriate material for their customers.

Francois Beukes, Managing Director of Industrial Analytical, explains: “This new venture, combining Industrial Analytical’s African offering with LGC Standards’ expert knowledge in reference materials, will help strengthen our position in the African marketplace. Our customers and suppliers can be reassured that while we are retaining both our trading name and our current team of 16 people in Kyalami, Johannesburg, our acquisition by LGC Standards will open more doors for us, thus expanding our existing product portfolio and allowing us to penetrate new markets.”

In welcoming Industrial Analytical to the LGC Group, David Richardson, Chief Executive of LGC, added: “Our companies are extremely well matched: both are renowned for their expertise, authority and excellent customer service. This acquisition will enable further innovations and will support LGC’s continued expansion within emerging markets. LGC Standards is committed to strengthening the service to the reference materials sector - we have historically had significant expertise and excellent customer relationships in the sector within our European and wider international territories. We are now very keen to roll this out to the growing African market.”
