New Strategy to be delivered through the National Measurement Institutes

The National Measurement Office has launched its National Measurement Strategy for 2011 – 2015. The new strategy sets out the action that Government is taking to support the National Measurement System (NMS) to meet the changing needs of business and society by encouraging economic growth, and improving the UK's competitiveness and scientific excellence across all areas of business and government.

The Strategy was launched by David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science, at the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition. The Strategy will be led by the National Measurement Office and delivered through the world leading research facilities at LGC, the National Physical Laboratory and NEL .
Measurement priorities include:

  • Growth
  • The energy challenge
  • The sustainability challenge
  • The health challenge
  • The digital challenge
  • The security challenge.
